Philadelphia

I’m at the airport, waiting for my flight to Chicago, where I will attempt to qualify for the Windy City Squash Open.  I’m really looking forward it! I’ve heard great things about the city and I’m eager to get on court and win some matches, but part of me is really going to miss Philadelphia. Someone told me that the feeling you take away from a place all comes down to who you experience it with, and nothing could be truer than in the last week in Philadelphia. It’s a great city on its own, but what really made it special was the Proctor family, whom I had the pleasure of staying with throughout last week. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I said I was going to try to update the post daily throughout the tournament. That didn’t happen, obviously. Tracking down somewhere convenient to type a few lines is always hard when you finish matches at random times and have to think about the next match straight away, which is what happens when you play in Australia. Most of the time it’s two matches a day, and before you know it, the tournament is over.

Keeping The Goal

Relaxing with the iconic New Zealand drink, Lemon and Paeroa!

Most of you will be well aware that it’s summer-time in New Zealand. It’s hard to forget when the sun is beating down day after day! As fortunate as we are to have this weather, and enjoy it we must, all of us are probably thinking about the year ahead.

Now, I don’t know what it’s like in the cold, snowy parts of the world. I’ve never started a year in those conditions. But, I do know that when I’m out in the sun and it’s near 30 degrees, if not more, and I’m looking over the Manakau Harbour where the sun is glistening on the calm full tide, it is very easy to have rosy predictions for the year. That’s not a bad thing at all, no way, and I can take confidence from knowing that I’ve spent my time well, fitting in lots of running and squash sessions around my time at the beach.
